Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated Raid 2 opened to solid numbers but surprisingly fell short of the Rs 50 crore mark by the end of3rd day. The sequel to the 2018 hit, which carried high expectations from fans and trade alike, managed a respectable Rs 49.25 crore in three days — just shy of the coveted half-century milestone.

The film started its box office journey on a very good note, collecting Rs 19.25 crore as it became Ajay’s second biggest opening since the pandemic beating films like Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan. His biggest opening till date remains Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again which collected Rs 43.5 crore on its opening day.

On its second day, Raid 2 witnessed a noticeable drop of 37.66%, earning Rs 12 crore which was expected as the film was released on Thursday, which was also a holiday in Maharashtra on the occasion of Labour Day. But the film picked up by more than 50 % on Saturday.

With early estimates the film collected Rs 18 crore. The spike was driven by positive word-of-mouth, Ajay Devgn’s consistent draw in mass circuits, and the weekend advantage. Despite the recovery, the film's cumulative total settled at Rs 49.25 crore by the end of Day 3 — narrowly missing the Rs 50 crore mark.

Trade believes that while the film has performed reasonably well, the intense three-way box office clash limited its growth. Hit 3 performed strongly in the Telugu belt and beyond, while Retro managed decent numbers in Tamil Nadu. This fragmentation of audiences possibly prevented Raid 2 from achieving its expected weekend target.

Raid 2 directed by Rajkumar Gupta featured Ritiesh Deshmukh,Vaani Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. It would be interesting to see how the film fares on Sunday.
