Man accused of sexually exploiting minor ends life

Jamshedpur: A 42-year-old man killed himself by hanging from the ceiling fan of a vacant room at a police station in Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela on Friday.

The deceased, Anil Mahato, used a torn blanket to hang himself around 2 pm.

"He was accused of sexually exploiting a minor girl and was brought to the police station on Friday for questioning. When the investigation officer exited the room for a while, the accused closed the door and committed suicide," a police officer said .

When police personnel noticed the accused hanging, they broke the door open, loosened the noose, brought him down and rushed him to the Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for treatment, but doctors declared him dead.

The officer said the accused might have taken the extreme step for fear of losing his face. The deceased was apprehended on the complaint of the mother of the girl with whom he used to often indulge in indecent chats over the phone. The woman lodged the complaint on Thursday. tnn
