Quepem/Canacona: Two minor girls lost their lives in separate drowning incidents in the state on Monday. A 10-year-old girl drowned in an irrigation canal in Quepem, and a three-year-old from Delhi drowned in a Canacona resort's swimming pool.
In the first incident, Jospak Shaikh told Quepem police that her niece was found floating in an irrigation canal. The autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death, police said.
In the second incident, three-year-old Fatima, daughter of Imdad Afroz Saizy from Okhla, Delhi, drowned in a swimming pool at a resort in Agonda, while the family was having lunch.
The child's father said that she wandered near the pool without their knowledge and accidentally drowned.
The parents rushed her to CHC Canacona for treatment, but the child was declared brought dead by the doctor on duty.
