NEW DELHI: A tremor of 3.4 magnitude hit north Gujarat in the wee hours of Saturday, the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) stated.
According to the district authorities, there was no report of casualty or property damage.
The seismic activity , centred near Vav in Banaskantha district , was detected at 3.35 am, as reported by the ISR in their recent update.
According to the Gandhinagar-based institute, the seismic event occurred approximately 27 km east-north-east (ENE) from Vav, with a depth measurement of 4.9 km.
The GSDMA records indicate that Gujarat lies in a high seismic zone and has experienced nine significant earthquakes during the past 200 years.
The January 26, 2001 earthquake in Kutch ranks as India's third largest and second most devastating seismic event of the last two centuries, as documented by the GSDMA.
The catastrophic event resulted in widespread devastation across numerous towns and villages in the district, claiming approximately 13,800 lives and causing injuries to 1.67 lakh residents.
