There's another new smartwatch coming to wrists, and it brings back an upgrade that Samsung and Apple won't match. The latest Instinct 3 - Tactical Edition from Garmin is not only built for extreme durability and serious punishment but it also gets the firm's clever solar charging. That means, in the right conditions, the screen has totally unlimited battery life and will never need to go near a plug. Even if things aren't optimal, there's still 24 days of power from a single charge. Most other smartwatches will only last a few days before running flat so this device could be perfect for those going really off the beaten track.
Other bonus extras coming to the Instinct 3 - Tactical Edition include a built-in LED flashlight to guide users in the dark, multi-band GPS for pinpoint accuracy, plus a 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter.
It will show all of the data from both Android and iPhones including messages, emails and alerts plus there is full health tracking.
That means it can monitor heart rate, sleep and oxygen levels. It will also spot how active you've been and includes sports apps like rucking, hiking, running, climbing, hunting, skiing and more.

If you are out and about and things go wrong, safety and tracking features include incident detection which can send a message with the user's GPS location to emergency contacts when paired with a smartphone.
It's available in two sizes 45mm or 50mm with the bigger model also getting an AMOLED display.
Prices start from £429.99 which is also cheaper than both the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra.
"The Instinct series has proven itself time and again as the ultimate choice for individuals who need an advanced smartwatch they can depend on in any situation," said Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing.
"With incredible battery life, an innovative rugged design and dedicated features for your tactical lifestyle, the Instinct 3 - Tactical Edition answers the call and dares to be more."
