Thousands of Brits count on receiving benefits and state pension payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) at regular monthly interverals. However, bank holidays can create a touch of confusion for many who are waiting for their cash to arrive.
And next month, payments ordinarily scheduled for Monday, August 25 will be brought forward to Friday, August 22. This change affects a range of benefits issued by DWP, including the state pension. Similarly, those expecting payments on August 23 or 24, are also set for good news as the money is likely to come on August 22.
This adjustment is made because payments scheduled for weekends are typically processed on the last working day beforehand.
Looking ahead, the next bank holidays set to impact DWP payments will fall in December. Any payments scheduled for the 25th or 26th will instead be issued on December 24.
No matter when your benefits are paid, the amount you get won't change unless your situation does. Getting an early payment in August might feel helpful, especially during the cost of living crisis, but it can make budgeting tricky, since your next payment won't come until its usual date in September, that money has to last longer.
To avoid falling short, plan ahead so your benefits stretch over the extended period.
