This war series is based on a bestselling book, and it has been hailed by fans as a "masterpiece". The Underground Railroad is a historical drama television miniseries created and directed by Barry Jenkins and based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead, which was published in 2016. The series first aired back in 2021. It stars Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, Joel Edgerton Fred Hechinger, and Peter Mullan, among others.

The series has received widespread critical acclaim, and its 95% rating from the critics of Rotten Tomatoes demonstrates that. Their consensus states: "With a superb ensemble and Barry Jenkins' singular eye, The Underground Railroad delicately translates its source material into a powerfully humane series that is as challenging as it is necessary."
