A captivating period drama film is currently available on Amazon Prime Video and represents essential viewing for enthusiasts of historical storytelling, whilst others have relished a "masterful" BBC series and some have celebrated an "exquisite" adaptation of an Ibsen classic, reports the Mirror.
The picture debuted in 1995 but remains enthralling for audiences due to its stellar ensemble of A-list performers.
Numerous viewers have commended the film and one 10/10 review on IMDb declared: "Satisfying from start to finish."
A second critic lauded the film as a "compelling epic" and declared: "It's simply a great epic about honor [sic], love, and family."
Meanwhile a third person entitled their review: "An unforgettable epic of love and honor [sic]."

The audience member elaborated: "What can one say about a film that has one of the blackest, most nihilistic, and occasionally most weirdly -I wont say 'sympathetic'..I will say 'charismatic' villains in the history of the Cinema, and the best sword fight since Flynn and Fairbanks were in their heyday? This is an epic about a stubborn, sometimes foolish, incredibly courageous and honest mans fight for his honor and freedom against tyranny. I loved it [sic]."
Another individual remarked in their highly-rated review: "Thoroughly enjoyable, intelligently-made period action/drama". The user went on: "From the excellent acting of an extremely impressive cast, to the intelligently written (and very quotable) script, from the lavish cinematography to the beautiful music score by Carter Burwell, Rob Roy offers a rarity in movie going experiences: one that is nigh impossible to find fault with in any area."
Rob Roy was released in 1995, the same year as Mel Gibson's Braveheart, a Hollywood biographical film about Scottish freedom fighter and knight William Wallace.
Similar to Braveheart, Rob Roy centred on another Scottish legend, Rob Roy, a cattle rustler and Jacobite.
The film was set in 1713 following nobleman Rob Roy MacGregor (portrayed by Liam Neeson) who becomes an outlaw pursuing revenge against those who have betrayed him whilst evading the Redcoats and confronting accusations of being a Jacobite.
Despite the film being recognised for departing from historical accuracy, it has received considerable acclaim.
The picture featured a stellar ensemble cast, including Succession's Brian Cox, Alien's John Hurt, Pulp Fiction star Tim Roth, American Horror Story icon Jessica Lange, Jason Flemyng, Line of Duty and Outlander: Blood of My Blood's Brian McCardie, Andrew Keir, and Madam Secretary's Eric Stoltz.
Hurt and Roth's menacing portrayals as Montrose and Cunningham respectively earned significant acclaim. One viewer remarked: "This is a villain you love to loathe. The Roth character is so foppish that he appears somewhat effeminate; but this is merely disguise as he's actually a ruthless master swordsman. Surely this is one of film's top villains ever."
Another commented: "Cunningham(Tim Roth) is an amazing villain and character in this story. Brutally cold and if you watch his face he seems to be able to turn his eyes off and look completely evil."
A third viewer opined: "[T]im Roth's villain is brilliant (you really get to hate the guy) and the supporting cast is most qualified mainly Jessica Lange, John Hurt and Brian Cox."
