Russia has stepped up its attacks to discredit Donald Trump, as relations between Washington and Moscow go south. The US President has infuriated the Kremlin, after he criticised the Russian leader's refusal to engage seriously in peace talks.
Trump said he was "disappointed" in Putin, accusing the Kremlin tyrant of talking "a lot of bulls***". The White House has green lit a new weapons package for Ukraine and is threatening 100% secondary tariffs on Russia, as it tries to force the reluctant Kremlin boss to the negotiating table. But Putin appears to be unfazed by these latest development and is refusing to kowtow to Trump and his demands.
Instead the Kremlin has intensified its attacks on the White House incumbent, questioning his mental health. Appearing on Solovyov live, former New York Times journalist and pro-Russian commentator John Varoli laid into Trump following his meeting with Nato chief Mark Rutte over the weekend.
"Unfortunately yesterday we witnessed and became totally convinced that President Trump's health is drastically worsening," he said. "He isn't able to speak clearly, coherently or intelligently. The situation with Donald Trump's health is very, very serious. We understand that Donald Trump has truly lost his mind."
As evidence, he cited the fact that the US President dared to listen to the advice of his wife Melania on Russia. Trump related how he told his wife that he had just spoken to Putin and had a "wonderful conversation" on Ukraine, only for his spouse to point out that Russia had just hit another city with missiles and drones.
An outraged Varoli fumed: "He doesn't understand what is going on. He said that he listens to his wife's opinion about geopolitics, that he relies on his wife Melania's opinion."
He added: "There were many occasions when the President wasn't able to speak clearly, coherently or intelligently. Clearly his cognitive abilities will only get worse."
Solovyov live is the streaming channel of Vladimir Solovyov - a leading Kremlin propagandist who regularly brings up the spectre of nuclear war in attempts to sow fear and panic in the West.
In a recent episode of his talk show on Russian state TV, Solovyov warned Trump that if the US refused to treat moscow with respect, then "you may find yourself facing the most terrifying enemy you've ever known."
