Prince William and Prince Harry's royal rift is "impossible" to fix, one expert has said, in a damning verdict of the once close brothers. Over the last few years, it is no secret that William, 44, has been distant from his younger brother Prince Harry, 40.
While it is believed the rift started long before Harry quit royal life with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, it has seemingly become progressively worse over the years, with reports stating that the brothers no longer speak. This is believed to have been the case since Harry published his bombshell memoir Spare in 2023. Although some believe the King's sons could one day fix their years-long rift, others believe it is "impossible" for the brothers to solve their issues.
Speaking to People this week, various experts have given their verdict on Harry and William's relationship, with one historian believing it will never be fixed.
Talking about the potential of the royal siblings healing their rift, historian Amanda Foreman said: "Everyone wants it to happen on their terms, but that's what makes it impossible."
Another expert said a resolution to the rift will be reliant on Harry apologising. Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers, said: "The rift is very profound and very long-lasting.
"It will not be changed, in my opinion, until Harry makes a move and apologises."

Diana's biographer Andrew Morton also told People that if Harry and William's mother Princess Diana, who passed away in 1997, was still alive, the brothers "would have worked things out".
He said: "Diana always used to say she had two boys for a reason - the younger would be there to support the older in the lonely task as future King.
"There is no doubt Diana would have tried to act as a peacemaker between them. If she had been around, they would have worked things out in a different way."
