A warning has been issued to Brits heading to Cyprus this summer. The island, located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, is a popular holiday destination but tourists are being warned of potential risks.
The Foreign Office said terrorist attacks "cannot be ruled out" in Cyprus. Meanwhile, "ongoing hostilities" between Israel and Iran could trigger escalation and impact the wider region, including Cyprus. While not directly involved in the conflict, Cyprus is located close to the tensions with Ayia Napa just 145 miles away from Israel.
The Foreign Office said: "Ongoing hostilities in the region and between Israel and Iran could escalate quickly and pose security risks for the wider region."
Tourists are advised to keep an eye out for developments in the conflict in the media. They should also always follow the guidance of the local authorities.
The Foreign Office added: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times."
It continued: "Although there's no recent history of terrorism in Cyprus, attacks cannot be ruled out. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreign nationals."

The UK has two Sovereign Bases in Cyprus which foreign secretary David Lammy describes as "hugely important at this time." This further heightens worries about the possible impact on Cyprus if the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies.
Airlines are currently operating normally to and from Cyprus. While no incidents have led to flight disruptions, tourists are advised to contact their airline if they are concerned about potential conflict escalation.
However, Brits are unable to cancel their trip to Cyprus for a full refund as the Foreign Office does not warn against travel. Likewise, travel insurance will not help as the insurer will say there is no reason not to go.
