China is set to launch its own version of Volkswagen in the UK, with its two launch models set to be among the "most affordable" SUVs in the country. Chinese manufacturer Chery lifted the covers of its two new UK-bound models at a glitzy launch event at London's O2 Arena.
Founded in China back in 1997, Chery is now becoming a major global player, securing the tag of fastest-rising automaker in this year's Fortune Global 500. The brand has now sold 5million cars worldwide and already has a foothold in the UK market through their offshoot OMADA and Jaecoo brands. In the UK, these have already sold over 25,000 vehicles, ensuring a 2.71% market share with parent company Chery now bringing their own badged models to the line-up.

First, the company's best-selling model globally, the Tiggo 7, will soon become the cheapest hybrid model in the UK. Fitted with either a 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine or Chery's plug-in hybrid system, the Tiggo 7 has the Volkswagen Tiguan squarely in its sights.
Inside, leather seats top off a stylish and comfortable interior with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, sunroof and 12-speaker Sony audio. The boot is certainly practical with drivers to benefit from 426 litres of space while an air purification system stops pollen from entering the cabin.
The entry level Aspire ICE car comes in at just £24,995 with the cheapest plug-in model just shy of £30,000. Chery Product Manager Oliver Lowe said: "Comfort is provided in spades with a large cabin offering lots of rear legroom and even space."

Chery also unveiled its Tiggo 8 model, which is set to be the cheapest seven-seater SUV in the country. The car is noticeably larger and is fitted with extra features to boot, including a larger 15.6-inch infotainment screen.
The vehicle also benefits from 494 litres of boot space but this will be cut down considerably if all seven seats are applied. Although technically capable of holding seven people, it will be a squeeze with the rear passengers literally sitting in the boot on fold-down chairs.
Mr Lowe said: "The Tiggo 8 is a seven-seater SUV offering the spec and versatility that growing families demand. It's a genuine five plus two layout providing flexible seating for everything from the daily school run to a family beach holiday."
The car also benefits from extra comforts including wireless phone charging and eco skin leather for the entry price of £28,545 for an ICE model or £33,545 for a hybrid. Chery has confidence it will offer consumers a premium experience and backs it up with a promise of a seven-year or 100,000 mile warranty.
