Brits are vowing to boycott a popular destination after prices appear to have got "out of control". There have even been claims people have been asked to pay to sit by the pool and enjoy some time in the sun.

A blogger, known as More Sabrina Escapes on , recently posted a video speaking of what happened to her at a hotel in . She said she was staying at a "really popular resort" when she was allegedly asked to move from relaxing by the pool as it costs €100 to sit in the area she was located.

Sabrina said: "Why would you want to pay that when you could use that towards a whole holiday or excursions or whatever? So then we went to the main pool area, and guess what? It's the same thing over there.

"You've got to pay for certain sunbeds. And the ones that you could sit in were all in the shade. If you're someone who wants to get a tan, how're you going to get your tan?"

She noted she's "sick" of being asked to pay for things after she's already paid for a holiday. The experience seems to have left her a little annoyed, and the video caused a lot of people to speak up about Turkey online.

It's not the first time people have brought up the rising prices in Turkey. Lately, many have been voicing concerns over the growing costs to visit the holiday hotspot.

One person replied: "Just got back. Was a rip off holiday, but it's also due to their hyperinflation." Another wrote: "Turkey is going downhill with its prices. People will start avoiding going there anymore."

A third replied: "Don't know anyone going to Turkey this year - they've priced themselves out of the tourist market." Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Turkey - the country that has started ripping people off. I wouldn't bother going there."

Some people were a little confused by the alleged sunbed charges though. A few people admitted they'd visited the hotel, and have never been charged like this before.

One person wrote: "Been here. Sat there every day and was never asked to pay. Maybe it was for the cabanas? It's not for the loungers."

Online it states you don't have to pay for sunbed use, but cabana usage may require an additional fee. It's said specific pricing could vary, and the hotel has been asked to provide further insight.

Why is Turkey becoming so expensive?

There are a few reasons why prices are said to have shot up in Turkey. has offered one explanation.

The website reads: "Domestic producer price indices have been continuously rising, which has directly resulted in a price increase in all consumer goods and services. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in all commodity groups increased extremely since 2022.

"In the same year, the food and non-alcoholic beverages category had one of the highest inflation rates in the CPI. This particularly affected Turkish consumers, as these products accounted for the highest share of household expenditure in 2023.

"Since 2020, food prices have increased significantly around the world, and Turkey is no exception. Although inflation has started to slow down recently, food prices in Turkey continue to go up steadily, increasing by 48.6 percent in November 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year.

"It is not surprising that food inflation has not simmered down, as the producer price index (PPI) of agricultural products followed a constant increasing trend in the country over the past few years."

However, it's said Turkey is taking steps to help boost tourism, including addressing rising prices, making tourist offerings more diverse and investing in infrastructure. The Government is said to be working to reduce inflation, and some people are also promoting niche tourism areas like spas and health care.
