A heartbroken family have described an eight-year-old boy who died in a suspected murder as "funny and beautiful" as they paid tribute to him. Rhys Anthony Cameron was found dead at home in Billingham, Stockton-on-Tees, between Saturday, September 13 and Monday, September 15, Cleveland Police said.
Louise Cameron, 40, of Billingham, has been charged with murder and was remanded in custody after appearing at Teesside Crown Court on Friday. She will next appear at the same court on November 6. In a tribute released through Cleveland Police, Rhys's family said the little boy will be "missed more than we can ever put into words".
The full statement read: "Rhys was a lovely little son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend to many who loved and knew him in the community.
"He had a cheery, funny and beautiful personality and carried a huge smile wherever he went that will forever be remembered.
"His love for listening to music, playing with his friends and toothbrushes brought joy to us all.
"To say we as a family are devastated is an understatement, Rhys will be missed more than we can ever put into words.
"We take comfort from the words of support we have received, and the love shown to Rhys as we continue to take time to come to terms with our tragic loss."
Specialist officers are supporting Rhys' family during this difficult time.
Cleveland Police said at the time of Rhys' tragic death: "On Monday 15th September at 10am, officers received a call from the North East Ambulance Service regarding the sad passing of an eight-year-old child.
"The child's death is currently being treated as unexplained and detectives have launched an investigation. Our thoughts are with the family of the child during this very difficult time.
"A 40-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the child's death."
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a private address in the Marsh House Avenue area of Billingham shortly after 10am on Monday, September 15. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a clinical team leader and a duty officer to the scene."
