Patna: Bihar’s law and order situation was once again under the scanner on Thursday after a murder accused, who was out on parole, was shot dead by unmasked gunmen inside a private hospital in Patna.
Police said the shooting took place at Paras HMRI Hospital in the capital city’s Raja Bazaar area. Chandan Mishra, the victim — an accused in a murder case in Buxar district — had been released from Beur Jail on medical parole and was undergoing treatment at Paras Hospital.
CCTV footage from the hospital corridor showed five armed men entering Mishra’s room and firing at him multiple times. Moment later, all five assailants fled the hospital premises.

There has been no report of injury to other people at the hospital.
“Buxar district’s notorious criminal Chandan Mishra, who was out on parole for treatment, was attacked inside the hospital premises. The attackers are suspected to be members of a rival gang or possibly involved in a gang-related dispute among Mishra’s own associates,” Central Range (Patna) Inspector General Jitendra Rana told reporters.
“It cannot be ruled out that the security guards were involved. We will investigate this angle as well,” he added.
Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma informed that Mishra, a resident of Buxar district, had dozens of murder cases registered against him. He was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail, before getting parole for medical treatment.
The attackers have been identified as workers associated with a real estate firm, reported News18. They were allegedly involved in crime-related activities earlier.
Call for President’s Rule in Bihar
The incident, which comes 12 days after businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his Patna home, has triggered sharp political reactions, with the Opposition accusing the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government of failing to curb rising crime in the state.
“I will request the Governor to impose President’s Rule in Bihar. Nurses, doctors — no one is safe here. This government shelters criminals and mafias. There is no administration left in Bihar,” Purnea MP Pappu Yadav said.
RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said that the state has descended into ‘Gunda Raj’. “The criminals don’t fear the police anymore. Crime is out of control while the state government remains silent. The law and order situation in Bihar has collapsed,” he said.
