Cracked heels are a common winter problem caused by dry, thickened skin. If untreated, they can lead to pain, wounds, and infections, especially concerning for people with diabetes. Several natural remedies can help restore soft, smooth skin on your feet:
Glycerin-Lemon Juice Mix
Combine rose water, glycerin, and lemon juice in a bottle. Apply to heels nightly before bed to soften the skin. This remedy also works well on hands.
Beeswax Balm
Heat yellow beeswax and mix with glycerin, a pinch of turmeric, castor or coconut oil. After cooling, store in an airtight container. Use this balm nightly on heels and cover with socks; it eases cracking and softens feet within days.
Honey-Aloe-Banana Foot Pack
Grind honey, aloe vera gel, and ripe banana to form a paste. Apply for 20+ minutes, then massage thoroughly. Use thrice weekly to remove dead skin and improve softness and glow.
Dead Skin Removal
Soak feet 15 minutes in warm water with mild shampoo, salt, and alum. Scrub heels with a pumice stone. Or use a scrub of coffee, sugar, honey, and coconut oil. Moisturize afterward. Limit soaking to once a week.
Castor Oil Massage and Proper Footwear
Apply castor oil nightly, massaging soles and heels for relaxation and skin nourishment. Wear soft, closed footwear daily to protect feet from damage.
