Taylor Swifthas moved to clear up her Actually Romantic lyrics as fans claim she is hitting out at former pal Charli XCX. As fans obsessed over Friday's release of Taylor's 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl, they were sure she was firing shots at Charli's way.
In the track, Taylor 35, sings: "I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave." She later added: "High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me/ Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face/ Some people might be offended/ But it’s actually sweet."
Fans quickly speculated on the meaning as they dissected the song. Many took to social media to share their thoughts that it was a snap back at Charli, who had previously opened up for Taylor on tour.

Some pointed out their belief that it was a rebuttal to Charli’s Sympathy Is A Knife tune from her Brat album. In the track, she sang: “Don’t know if I’m spiralling/ One voice tells me that they laugh/ George says I’m just paranoid/
"Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show/ Fingers crossed behind my back/ I hope they break up real quick." But despite the speculation, Taylor is trying her best to play down the idea - while Charli previously also denied insinuations the song was about Taylor.
In an audio track-by-track breakdown of the new album for Amazon Music, the Shake It Off singer claimed her new tune is "a song about realising that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about".
Taylor went on: "And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.
"It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you or having a problem with you but you take that and just accept it as love and you accept it as attention and affection, and how flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this.
And to namedrop the title of the tune, Taylor ended: "It’s actually pretty romantic if you really think about it." The comments come after both Taylor and Charli had attempted to calm any talk of a feud. Last year on stage in Brazil, Charli came to Taylor's defence after a fan raged: "Taylor is dead."
Charli hit back: Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there is room for this in this community. I will not tolerate it.”
Taylor herself has moved to publicly praise Charli's music since she burst on the scene over a decade ago. Away from the tune and potential drama, fans have been labelling Taylor's latest work her "best yet".
Despite such rave reviews, fans will be disappointed to hear, the pop icon has no plans to take it on tour. Following her epic The Tortured Poets Department world tour, Swifties were hopeful she would embark on another. But she has poured cold water on the idea.
