Newsboy's horseracing tips for Thursday's five meetings, including Newbury Nap

MONKMOOR PIP should take her record on turf to 2-3 by beating eight opponents for the Rayner Bosch Car Service Handicap (8.33) at Newbury on Thursday evening.

Having scored on his debut for Hugo Palmer in September 2023, the son of Fast Company failed to add to that tally in eight subsequent outings for the trainer.

Monkmoor Pip moved to Gary and Josh Moore for the 2025 campaign – and the switch has brought about an upturn in his fortunes.

After a return-to-action fifth at Wolverhampton in May, my selection finished third to Three Yorkshiremen at Kempton Park the following month.

And Monkmoor Pip made it third time lucky for his new trainer with a four-and-three-quarter-length winning margin in a selling handicap at Lingfield Park 16 days ago.

There’s a 6lb rise in the weights to deal with here but that defeat of Velvet Vulcan came on the five-year-old’s second start attempt on grass, so there should be more to come on the natural surface.

At Sandown Park, ORION’S BELT is taken to cope with a rise to Listed level for the European Bloodstock News EBF Star Stakes (3.20).
The Richard Hannon-saddled juvenile marked her second career start with a comprehensive maiden success on Newmarket’s July Cup undercard - and has barely scratched beneath the surface.
