Mum breaks hospital records as she gives birth to baby weighing 12lbs 14oz

A mum has given birth to a record-breaking baby who has weighed in at nearly 13lbs.

Shelby Martin shared an image of herself with a large baby bump and other photos of her newborn baby Cassian. He is so big that he has gone viral on social media and even been on the regional news channel in Nashville, Tennessee.

In a photo taken in hospital before giving birth she was smiling and a caption read: “When people talk about having a big baby like idk ball. But trust me… I know ball.” Then the next photo is of her son just after giving birth with a weight of 12lb 14oz.

The television news channel WSMV showed a photo of Cassian at Tristar Centennial Women’s Hospital saying that he was the biggest baby to be born there in the past three years. And to make it even more special Shelby gave birth to her son on her own birthday day and she called him her “greatest gift”.

The images have now been liked more than four million times on TikTok with 35 million views. Most people who commented were left shocked by the size of the newborn and joked how he already is the size of an adult.

One person wrote: "I usually don’t advocate for “push presents”, but girl, you better demand EVERYTHING." Another said: "Did he drive y'all home afterwards?"

While a further enquired: "Congratulations, but like are you ok?" and other comments included: "Please tell me you did a C-section" as well as: "How did they get him out?”

Meanwhile his grandma took to Instagram to say how he needed to stay in hospital following the birth saying that glucose levels can be affected in unusually large babies. She wrote: "Cassian has been in the NICU since almost immediately after the c-section.

"When it comes to big babies sometimes when they are born their glucose levels are out of wack and they need to be monitored. He is on an IV and oxygen.

"They will be keeping him overnight. I have not gotten to hold him in my arms or kiss his skin. I miss my son so bad but I know he is in good hands. I cannot wait to love on him."

But she then added a photo later of him doing well in hospital and wrote: "Oh my God!!! He is perfect!! I could just eat those cheeks up!"
