Local elections 2025 live results map

Millions of votes in the local elections across England continue to be counted today - with over 1,000 council seats set to declare.

In one of the biggest results so far this afternoon, Reform UK won Staffordshire County Council after a collapse in Conservative support - marking the first time the party has ever taken control of a local authority. They have also taken control in Lincolnshire and Durham.

It comes after Nigel Farage's party in a major upset. Former Tory councillor Sarah Pochin has become Reform's fifth MP after taking the former stronghold.

She beat Labour’s candidate Karen Shore by a mere six votes, who came second with 12,639. Ms Pochin will become Reform UK’s first female MP in Parliament.

Russell Brand bailed after appearing in court accused of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand has been granted conditional bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court after appearing at a 12 minute hearing to face charges of rape and sexual assault.

Standing behind reinforced glass in the dock, he spoke to confirm his name and address in Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, before appearing to forget his postcode. Holding his sunglasses behind his back, Brand, 49, confirmed the details after he was prompted by chief magistrate Paul Goldspring. Mr Goldspring said he must also provide, as part of his bail provisions, his address in the US where he also resides.
