George Michael's estate has responded to Taylor Swift honouring the late singer on her latest album. The 35-year-old pop sensation's new record, The Life of a Showgirl, includes a track named Father Figure, which borrows part of the melody from George Michael's song of the same name.
His representatives had "no hesitation" in granting permission for the interpolation, believing that the Careless Whisper icon would have "felt the same". In an Instagram post, the estate shared: "We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael's classic song 'Father Figure' into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album.
"When we heard the track we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists and we know George would have felt the same.

"George Michael Entertainment wishes Taylor every success with The Life of a Showgirl and 'Father Figure.'(sic)".
The caption of the post read: "Thank you @taylorswift for including George in such a special moment [heart emoji] Father Figure (Taylor's Version) is out tomorrow #TSTheLifeofaShowgirl (sic)".
George's former partner recently stated his belief that the late singer would have been proud of Taylor's upcoming tribute on The Life of a Showgirl, which was released on Friday (03.10. 25).

Kenny Goss, George Michael's partner from 1996 to 2009, told TMZ that the 'Faith' singer would have wholeheartedly approved of Taylor Swift's song.
Although George never met the 'Cruel Summer' singer before his passing in 2016, Kenny is confident that he would have been a fan and appreciated her interest in his work.
Kenny himself is an avid listener of Taylor's music and was pleasantly surprised when she decided to incorporate 'Father Figure' into her new album, despite having no prior knowledge of her plans.
Meanwhile, Taylor dropped a huge hint she plans to have babies with fiancé Travis Kelce. The 35-year-old appears to talk about their loved up romance in her The Life of a Showgirl album, which was released today.
In track Wi$h List, she sings in the chorus: "I just want you. Have a couple kids, got the whole block looking like you. We tell the world to leave us thе f*** alone, and they do."
In a further nod to NFL star Travis, also 35, the song continues: "Got me dreaming about a driveway with a basketball hoop. Boss up, settle down, got a wish list (Wish list). I just want you."
