Chelsea set for £65m summer transfer boost after breakthrough with Premier League rivals

Send Push

Chelsea have agreed the sales of three players for a combined £65million in what's set to fund another splurge in the transfer market. The Blues have spent an eye-watering £242m on new signings this summer, with the likes of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato all costing hefty sums.

Their arrivals have been offset by £130m in sales, with Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Djordje Petrovic among those to depart. Now they're poised to be joined by three more Chelsea players who aren't in Enzo Maresca's plans.

On Monday, the Blues made a triple breakthrough as they agreed the sales of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Lesley Ugochukwu and Armando Broja. The Blues only signed Dewsbury-Hall, 26, last summer, paying Leicester - where he played under Maresca - £30m.

The midfielder was only handed two starts in the Premier League, as the bulk of his minutes came in Europe. Everton were alerted to his situation and quickly agreed a deal for Dewsbury-Hall which is worth an initial £25m plus add-ons.

Ugochukwu and Broja, meanwhile, are off to newly-promoted Burnley. The pair have each agreed five-year contracts with Scott Parker's side and will cost Burnley around £20m each.

Ugochukwu, 21, spent last season on loan at Southampton but was unable to help them avoid relegation. As for 23-year-old Broja, he was loaned out to Everton at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign before being restricted to just 11 appearances - in which he failed to score - due to injury.

The trio's sales are set to give Chelsea more wiggle room as they pursue a deal for RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons. The Blues are also keen on Manchester United want-away Alejandro Garnacho.

There could be more outgoings from Chelsea, too, as the Mail report that Borussia Dortmund are in talks to re-sign Carney Chukwuemeka after the 21-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan with the German giants. Tyrique George, 19, could follow Chukwuemeka to Germany after Leipzig lodged their interest.

Fellow 19-year-old Marc Guiu is also set to join newly-promoted Sunderland on loan. Some more established names are still on the chopping block, with Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell working separately from the Blues' first-team squad.

Having gone all the way at the Club World Cup, Chelsea's players returned to training at Cobham on Monday. Maresca's men will host Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in friendly matches before starting their new Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, August 17.

The Blues' first four fixtures are against fellow London clubs. They'll make the short trips to West Ham and Brentford either side of welcoming Fulham to Stamford Bridge.
