Bountiful rain: MP receives 76 pc more than average this monsoon, says IMD official

Bhopal | Madhya Pradesh has received 76 per cent more rainfall than the normal average this monsoon season till Monday, with Tikamgarh district leading with 828.3 millimetres since June 1, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

The average monsoon rainfall in MP was 1024 mm between June 1 to September 30, senior meteorologist VS Yadav said.

"MP has received 456.6 mm rainfall against the average of 260 mm from June 1 to July 14. This is 76 per cent excess rainfall. Tikamgarh has received 828.3 mm against its average of 250.4 mm. Shivpuri has received 632.7 mm rainfall against an average of 204.8 mm, while Sheopur has recorded 612 mm against an average of 161. 3 mm," IMD Bhopal Centre meteorologist Abhilash Shrivastava told PTI.

Three districts in MP, however, have received below 200 mm, he added.

"Indore recorded 166.5 mm rainfall against average 231.3 mm, Agar Malwa has got 169.3 mm against an average of 224.9 mm and Burhanpur 161.5 mm against 230.6 mm," Shrivastava said.

The monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 16.

An IMD official said there will be a decrease in rain intensity across the state from Tuesday
