Video: Missiles Seen Flying, Explosions Heard In Pakistan's Punjab Province; Pak Media Claims 'Drone Shot Down'

New Delhi: A viral video has surfaced on social media, showing multiple missiles flying across the night sky over Gujranwala in Pakistan’s Punjab province. In another clip, an explosion can be clearly heard, while additional footage reportedly captures the exact moment of impact during the early hours between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

While there is no official confirmation from Indian authorities about the cause or nature of the explosions, Pakistani media outlets have claimed that an Indian drone was involved in the incident. According to reports, the drone allegedly entered Pakistani airspace during the early hours of Thursday, leading to a response from the Gujranwala Cantonment air defence system.

The reports further suggest that the drone was flying at a high altitude when it was detected and later targeted. The Pakistan defence forces allegedly fired two shots, bringing down the aircraft. Debris believed to be from the downed drone was reportedly recovered from fields near Pir Jhanda village in District Gujrat. However, these claims remain unverified by independent or official Indian sources.

The development follows closely on the heels of India’s recent counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, including tourists. The joint operation, executed by the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy, targeted nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Operation Sindoor is considered one of India’s most well-coordinated cross-border counter-terror strikes in recent years. In just 23 minutes, precision airstrikes were carried out against facilities linked to banned terror organisations Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. Among the key sites targeted were JeM’s Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, LeT’s Markaz Taiba in Muridke, and camps in Muzaffarabad and Kotli, all believed to be central to anti-India operations.

The operation carried both tactical and symbolic weight. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally named the mission “Sindoor,” symbolising the grief of widowed women in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. The red vermillion worn by married Hindu women was invoked as a reminder of the lives torn apart by terrorism.
