Mumbai: The minority wing of the NCP has asked Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to challenge the acquittal of Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, Lt Colonel Prasad Purohit, and others in the Malegaon blast case.
In a statement to the media, Syed Jalaluddin, national general secretary of Ajit Pawar-led NCP and president of the party’s minority wing, said that just like the government has appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the acquittal of Muslim accused in the 7/11 Mumbai blast case, it is expected that the government will approach the High Court to challenge the acquittal of the accused in the Malegaon case.
Syed said that the Modi government's agenda of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ will become a reality only when such actions are taken. Otherwise, the implementation of the law will create a sense of dual standards and discrimination among people, especially in the minority community. The survivors of the deceased, victims, and those with a secular and justice-oriented mind-set are stunned by this decision, said Syed.
2006 Malegaon Blast Case: A Tangled History Of Terror ProbesSyed added that the government should not send a message through any of its actions that it supports one religion and is against people of other religions or is in a state of discord with them. "Therefore, in the Malegaon blast case, it is essential that the Fadnavis government immediately files a petition in the High Court to challenge the decision and appeals to the court for an urgent hearing and stay on the decision. They said terrorism has no religion, but if the government is so proactive in one case and so lethargic in another, it will create a sense of dual standards in people's minds.”
