Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The students of Sagada (Jhapani) Government Higher Secondary School in the Bargi area are facing trouble due to a leaking roof in the school building.
A written complaint detailing the difficulties faced by students was sent to District Education Officer and several videos of the problems have gone viral on social media.
The continuous spell of rain in July has exposed the poor state of government schools in both urban and rural areas. The supposed ‘beautification’ and modernisation efforts undertaken in these schools have been washed away with the first heavy downpour.
Janpad member Narayan Sharma who made the complaint said the school's new building constructed recently, has begun to leak with the very first rains. Despite new desks and benches inside the classrooms, students are unable to sit there.
Madhya Pradesh High Court Seeks Responses From Authorities Over Jabalpur’s 'Dead' Traffic Signals, Gives Time Till July 27They complained that water suddenly starts dripping on their books and notebooks, making it impossible for them to sit there. Sharma's complaint also mentions that the building where children's meals are prepared is completely dilapidated.
The entire roof leaks, making it difficult to imagine the conditions under which food is prepared and how hygienic it can be.
Due to leaking roofs, children are forced to study outside their classrooms during the rainy season. Teachers try to find safe spots to hold classes. Due to these conditions, a large number of children do not attend school these days.
