Chhath Puja 2025: In Hinduism, every date, day, and month holds special significance. Among these months, Kartik is considered a month of fasts and festivals. Diwali was celebrated across the country on October 20th. Today marks the beginning of Chhath Puja, the grand festival of folk faith. Chhath Puja is a unique festival dedicated to the worship of Chhathi Maiya and Lord Surya. This festival marks the confluence of nature and faith. During this festival, both men and women observe a waterless fast, praying for the happiness and prosperity of their children.
On this festival, devotees observe a waterless fast for hours. However, due to fatigue, weakness, health issues, or a mistake, the fast is broken midway. In such a situation, the question arises: what should be done if the Chhath fast is accidentally broken? Fear arises in the mind that Chhathi Maiya might become angry and that she might be blamed. So, let's learn from Ujjain's Acharya Anand Bhardwaj how to free oneself from sins in such a situation and reap the benefits of the fast.
According to the Vedic calendar, this year's Chhath Puja began on October 25th. The festival will continue until October 28th. The festival will begin with Nahay-Khaay on October 25th. Kharna will be observed on the second day, October 26th. Then, on the third day, October 27th, offerings will be made to the setting sun. On the last day of Chhath Puja, October 28th, offerings will be made to the rising sun, marking the end of the festival.
If you accidentally break your Chhath fast, do this:
Chhathi Maiya is known to be loving and compassionate. If you have observed a fast and accidentally break it, first bathe and wear clean clothes. After that, calm your mind and light a lamp for Chhathi Maiya. Now, meditate on Chhathi Maiya and ask for forgiveness. Pray to Chhathi Maiya to forgive you for inadvertently breaking the fast and to extend the fast. After that, atone for it by donating some essential items like fruits and grains. In this way, fulfilling your vow of fasting, observe the next fast again as per the rules. By doing this, Chhathi Maiya will free you from the sin of breaking the fast.
