Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], October 6 (ANI): BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the decision of the Telangana Chief Minister Revnath Reddy-led government to increase the city bus fare in Hyderabad by ₹10, calling it a "cruel conspiracy" to exploit poor and middle-class commuters.
The new fares, which came into effect on October 6, will add an extra burden of at least ₹500 per month on regular commuters.
KTR criticised the decision, stating that the increased fare comes at a time when the general public is already facing rising prices of essential commodities. Speaking on behalf of the economically weaker sections of society, KTR raised a question to the Chief Minister, asking how the underprivileged and daily wage earners would adjust to the hike, which now poses an additional burden of Rs 500 per month.
"It wasn't enough that the charges for student bus passes and T-24 tickets were increased -- now, even the basic fare has been hiked by 50% without any compassion. This reflects Revanth Reddy's incompetent and undemocratic governance," KTR said angrily.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has increased the minimum city bus fare by ₹10. Passengers travelling by City Ordinary, Metro Express, E-Ordinary, and E-Express services will pay an additional ₹5 for the first three stages and ₹10 from the fourth stage onwards.
KTR estimated that the fare hike will impose a daily burden of nearly ₹1 crore on the residents of Hyderabad. He questioned how daily wage earners and the underprivileged would survive with this additional monthly expense of ₹500.
KTR slammed the Congress government, stating that the fare hike is a form of retribution against the people of Hyderabad for rejecting the Congress party in the last assembly elections. He also criticised the government's decision to increase student bus pass charges and T-24 ticket prices.
"The Congress government, which has bankrupted the RTC with its hollow promise of free bus rides, is now trying to crush the common commuter -- and that is inexcusable," KTR said.
He further warned that the government will face consequences for their actions. He stated that the 'incompetent government' led by CM Revnath Reddy has not only impacted the state's progress but also hindered the development of RTC's wheels.
He concluded by saying that the Congress governemnt and Reddy himself will be haunted by their misdeeds un til they are finally taken down from the pedestal. (ANI)
