When a selected contact posts a new Status, WhatsApp will send you a real-time alert with the contact's name. If the Status contains a photo or video, a small preview will also appear in the notification, allowing you to see the new Status without even opening the app.

The best part is that the contact for whom you've enabled notifications will not be aware of this new WhatsApp feature, meaning the entire feature will remain discreet.
