In today's digital era, WhatsApp has not only become an important means of communication, but it is also the most used messaging app in the world. If you also use WhatsApp daily, then you need to know that this app will now stop working in some old smartphones. WhatsApp has updated the minimum requirements of its system, due to which the support of the app is being discontinued on those devices which do not meet these new standards.
This platform powered by Meta will now work only on those devices which are running on minimum or newer software versions like iOS 15.1 or Android 5.1. That is, if your phone works on an older version than this, then you will not be able to use features like messaging or calling of WhatsApp in it.
Talking about iPhone, models like iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will now be out of WhatsApp because they do not support the latest iOS version. However, iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and the first iPhone SE can still be used as there is a facility to update them. On the other hand, in Android phones, devices like Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3, Sony Xperia Z1, LG G2, Huawei Ascend P6, Moto G (first generation) and HTC One X will no longer work with WhatsApp. Overall, WhatsApp will no longer work on any phone with Android 5.0 or older version.
If you want to know whether your phone comes in this list or not, then first of all you have to check the operating system version of your device. iPhone users can check the iOS version by going to "General" and then "About" section in Settings. Android users can get information about their software version by going to "About Phone" in Settings.
Apps like WhatsApp periodically discontinue support for older devices to improve their systems and features. Meta says that every year they evaluate which devices and operating systems are now outdated, which neither have the necessary security updates nor are they able to support the latest features of the app.
By discontinuing support for such devices, WhatsApp focuses on providing better security, better performance, and new feature experience to its remaining users.
If you want WhatsApp to run smoothly on your phone, then it is important that your phone is up-to-date. If your device is not getting the new version, then you may also have to opt for buying a new phone. Keeping up with the constantly changing technology has become a necessity today.
