A goal with Ange Postecoglou's players then delivering a defensive masterclass to see out the victory and end a 17-year trophy drought.
With the winning the showpiece clash, Postecoglou's promise of always winning in his second season has come true with Salah of all people commenting on exactly that.

Taking to X just minutes after the final whistle, he said: "He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!" Salah has enjoyed himself against Spurs this season with goals both home and away this season in aggregate score line of 11-4 in Liverpool's favour.
The latter of those came in their title triumph but his message suggests he may have a soft spot for Spurs. However, it could've been because of their opponents with United and Liverpool having a fierce rivalry and Salah himself also enjoying playing against United.
While not exactly a great watch, Spurs were decisive in both boxes with Johnson causing chaos after a Pape Sarr cross and the ball eventually bundled into the net. Amad caused some problems but Destiny Udogie recovered well to stop him impacting the game.
Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur were tireless in midfield with the likes of Kevin Danso, Djed Spence and Archie Gray coming on to see out the stunning victory.
Soon after, Tottenham picked up their winners medal with Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison, who both missed out due to injury, in full kits to celebrate.
"I'm so happy right now," match-winner Johnson said after the game. "This season hasn't been good at all but not one of us players care about that now," he told TNT Sports.
"This club hasn't won a trophy for 17 years, it means so much. "All the fans get battered, we get battered for not winning anything so we had to get the first one in a while today.
"Ever since I came here it's been 'Tottenham are a good team but they can't get it done'. "But we got it done.
"Tottenham Hotspur finishing 17th in the Premier League is not good enough but we've had an unbelievable Europa run. "I thought our fans had the edge on the United fans."
Son Heung-min was then pictured lifting the Europa League trophy as his first piece of silverware at the club in the same year that Harry Kane lifted the Bundesliga title at Bayern Munich.
